Is Focus Bad?

Sometimes, using laser-sharp focus on an issue can create tunnel vision.  Laser-sharp focus sounds like the best choice as we use our knowledge and skills to solve problems.  The truth is, when we focus on trying to find a solution, we could lose creativity that may have provided an easier, better solution.

When people talk about being open to new possibilities, this is what it means.  If you have done something the same way, over and over again, you may be missing out on new possibilities that have become available.  With easy decisions, it might not be an important distinction.  For example, if you walk the same path every day, you might be missing out on new, beautiful surroundings if you adjusted your path a few steps in a different direction.

For more complex decisions, like how to pay for college, searching for scholarships may not allow you to realize that certain state schools in surrounding states are little or no cost to someone with a good GPA, unless you know how to look for that information.  Especially for large decisions, information is overwhelming.  When you input search criteria into your search engine, the results that come back might not offer you broader options than what you requested.

The metaphors used are just examples of any small or large decision in life, but the thought process holds true for the possibility of missing out when restrictions are based on old thinking.  Being open to regrouping will allow different answers to unfold for the questions being asked.  Knowing how to open our minds to better solutions that what we believe currently exists can become priceless.

Have a great day!!
